Installing NetBackup Enterprise Server version: 7.6.0.1

If this machine will be using a different network interface than the
default (nbumaster), the name of the preferred interface should be used
as the configured server name. If this machine will be part of a
cluster, the virtual name should be used as the configured server name.

The domainname of this machine appears to be "domain.com".
You may choose to use this domainname in your configured NetBackup server
name, or simply use "nbumaster" as the configured NetBackup server name.

Would you like to use "nbumaster.domain.com" as the configured
NetBackup server name of this machine? [y,n] (y) n

Since in this example we are using a dedicated backup network, we need to use the backup network interface name as the primary NetBackup Server name

Enter the name of this NetBackup server: nbumaster-bkup.domain.com

Is nbumaster-bkup.domain.com the master server? [y,n] (y) y

Yes This is the Master. If it was Media Server you would answer with an "n".

Media servers can be added during this installation or
to a NetBackup environment after installation completes.
Refer to the NetBackup Administrator's Guide, Volume I for
more information.

Do you want to add any media servers now? [y,n] (n) n

If you know the names fo your media sever, you can add them now, or add them later when you are installing the NetBackup server software on the media servers. In this example we will do this step later as we must customized the bp.conf file anyway for the backup network.

Checking network connections.
bp.conf: IP_ADDRESS_FAMILY = AF_INET: default value, no update needed

Sending SIGHUP to inetd process.

WARNING: All config files need .conf: /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist, it will be ignored in a future release.

Value NO for the NetBackup Product Improvement Program was saved in bp.conf.

NetBackup maintains a centralized catalog (separate from the image
catalog) for data related to media and device configuration, device
management, storage units, hosts and host aliases, media server status,
NDMP credentials, and other information. This is managed by the
Enterprise Media Manager server.

Enter the Enterprise Media Manager server (default: nbumaster-bkup.domain.com):

The default is usually best, unless you plan to put the EMM Database (NBDB) on a different host. A feature that, acording to NetBackups release notes, is likley not to be supported in future releases.

Machine nbumaster.domain.com is a master server, and it is the EMMSERVER.

It doesn't hurt to say yes here, unless you expect it will cause backups to start running that you aren't ready to have run. On a new install this is not a concern, so the default of "y" is used.

OpsCenter is the next-generation monitoring, reporting and
administrative solution designed to centrally manage one or
more NetBackup installations from a web browser. Existing
NetBackup Operations Manager or Veritas Backup Reporter
installations can be upgraded to OpsCenter.

If an OpsCenter server already exists in your environment
or you plan to install one, enter the real hostname of that
OpsCenter server here. Do not use a virtual name. If you
do not want this local machine to be an OpsCenter server,
enter NONE.

This is why I like to have OpsCenter installed and running first.

Enter the OpsCenter server (default: NONE): opcenter-bkup.domain.com

Actually, we still have a lot to do before the environment is well tuned and ready for production.

File /usr/openv/tmp/install_trace.7937 contains a trace of this install.
That file can be deleted after you are sure the install was successful.

Lets check that everything started normally

Next up NetBackup EMMDB Aliases.

Now we need to add aliases for the other network interfaces on "nbumaster". This insure that any communication, either internally, or external, involving "nbumaster" is accepted and not rejected (resulting in errors).

First I add the short name (which should actually get added by default).

[root@nbumaster ~]# /usr/openv/netbackup/bin/admincmd/nbemmcmd -machinealias -addalias -alias nbumaster -machinename nbumaster-bkup.domain.com -machinetype master
-
NBEMMCMD, Version: 7.6.0.1
Command completed successfully.

And repeat for any additional interfaces, adding both the FQDN and short name as aliases.

Once done, we can verify that all interfaces are listed as aliases with this command:

[root@nbumaster ~]# /usr/openv/netbackup/bin/admincmd/nbemmcmd -machinealias -getaliases -machinename nbumaster-bkup.domain.com -machinetype master
NBEMMCMD, Version: 7.6.0.1
The following aliases were found for the alias: "nbumaster-bkup.domain.com"
nbumaster-bkup.domain.com
nbumaster.domain.com
nbumaster
nbumaster-bkp
Command completed successfully.

Since we are using a different backup network interface, we also need to update the bp.conf file so that all configurations are set to the backup network interface. Usually it's the "CLIENT_NAME" that needs updating as it defaults to the main server name. We can also easily add additional or new Media Servers at the same time.

[root@nbumaster ~]# cd /usr/openv/netbackup/
[root@nbumaster netbackup]# vi bp.conf
"bp.conf" 10L, 366CSERVER = nbumaster-bkp.domain.com
CLIENT_NAME = nbumaster.domain.com
CONNECT_OPTIONS = localhost 1 0 2
USE_VXSS = PROHIBITED
VXSS_SERVICE_TYPE = INTEGRITYANDCONFIDENTIALITY
EMMSERVER = nbumaster-bkup.domain.com
HOST_CACHE_TTL = 3600
VXDBMS_NB_DATA = /usr/openv/db/data
OPS_CENTER_SERVER_NAME = opscenter-bkup.domain.com
TELEMETRY_UPLOAD = NO

Changed to:

SERVER = nbumaster-bkup.domain.com
SERVER = mediaserver1-bkup.domain.com
CLIENT_NAME = nbumaster-bkup.domain.com
CONNECT_OPTIONS = localhost 1 0 2
USE_VXSS = PROHIBITED
VXSS_SERVICE_TYPE = INTEGRITYANDCONFIDENTIALITY
EMMSERVER = nbumaster-bkup.domain.com
HOST_CACHE_TTL = 3600
VXDBMS_NB_DATA = /usr/openv/db/data
OPS_CENTER_SERVER_NAME = opscenter-bkup.domain.com
TELEMETRY_UPLOAD = NO

Additionally, you can add a windows server to the list of servers, that you want to be able to run the Window GUI Admin Console from (i.e. OpsCenter server).

Now we are going to move the logging directories to a separate filesystem.

First we insure the target is ready for the files to be moved to, and create the logging directories on the local filesystem (or a separate SAN filesystem).

[root@nbumaster ~]# cd /dir/
[root@nbumaster dir]# mkdir openv
[root@nbumaster dir]# mkdir openv/logs
[root@nbumaster dir]# mkdir openv/nbu-logs
[root@nbumaster dir]# cd openv/

drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Apr 15 11:09 logs
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Apr 15 11:09 nbu-logs

Now we need to allow access to administer the new NetBackup installation. For the Java Admin Console add them to the "auth.conf" file:

[root@nbumaster NetBackup_7.6.0.1_LinuxR_x86_64]# vi /usr/openv/java/auth.conf
"/usr/openv/java/auth.conf" 2L, 54C
root ADMIN=ALL JBP=ALL
* ADMIN=JBP JBP=ENDUSER+BU+ARC
~
~
~

Change to:

root ADMIN= JBP=
sjhollist ADMIN=ALL JBP=ALL
* ADMIN=JBP JBP=ENDUSER+BU+ARC
~
~
~
"/usr/openv/java/auth.conf" 3L, 83C written

This changes root from having full access, to having no access, and giving myself full access instead (via the Java Admin Console).

Optional: Add OpsCenter (or another Windows server) as a "server" so we can Install the GUI Admin Console on it:'

[root@nbumaster netbackup]# vi bp.conf

[root@nbumaster netbackup]# more bp.conf

SERVER = nbumaster-bkup.domain.com
SERVER = mediaserver1-bkup.domain.com

HOST_CACHE_TTL = 3600
VXDBMS_NB_DATA = /usr/openv/db/data
OPS_CENTER_SERVER_NAME = opsoenter-bkup.domain.com

Done.

[root@nbumaster netbackup]# exit
logout
[sjhollist@nbumaster ~]$ exit
